The Pentad Cycle
Savage Sorcery 2010 ©

The Pentad Cycle is a series of five campaign world source books from Savage Sorcery’s new fantasy series. The series as a whole represents an ambitious project to be the most complete and detailed set of fantasy world supplements available.

From a design standpoint, The Pentad Cycle is intended to serve several functions. First and foremost, the Pentad has to work equally well as a complete system and as a series of supplements. To facilitate this two-fold purpose, The Pentad Cycle is designed in modular format, allowing you to pick and choose the material you want to use or add to your campaign. The Pentad serves this function quite admirably, each of the five source books are broken down further into three volumes or trilogy on each unique world and it all can be used separately. Each volume in the source books trilogy offers a wealth of information.

The first volume in each set is a campaign primer designed specifically for each world. It contains information on magic, weapons, armor, and contains a plethora of new items and various guides. Several unique character classes, new player character races, as well as optional magic and combat rules.

The second volume in each series functions as a complete atlas of each realm. They each contain detailed maps of each world, plus information on trade routes, special areas, and each realms unique history. As well as how each world can interact with each other world and much more…
By itself this guide provides a fabulous background for any fantasy campaign.

The third book in each trilogy is a compendium of the fantastic beings and creatures from each realm. Each contains hundreds of entries, including rare and unusual beasts, non-human races, tribes, cults, and hard to find statistics for a wide variety of wild and domesticated animals. Simple and straight forward, the catalog can easily be adapted to any F.R.P. game, and makes a strong addition to any fantasy campaign.

By itself The Pentad Cycle may be used as a complete F.R.P. system, a collection of game variants, or as a superior set of reference books for any RPG system.

The second most important design consideration for The Pentad Cycle was ease of play. Although this series is designed almost exclusively for experienced gamers, the rules sections were kept to a bare minimum. All too often, ‘advanced’ systems do little more than burden the player and GM with mountains of statistics, modifiers, and adjustments. Such is not the case with The Pentad Cycle. The mechanics of both the combat and magic systems are simple to learn and fast-playing, allowing players and GM’s to spend more time role-playing and less time consulting charts. The objective of this ‘minimalist’ approach was to add depth and realism where it would be most useful to the gamer; not with long-winded and time-consuming rule sections, but with an abundance of interesting and colorful background material designed to give players a real feel for their characters (after all, the object of the game is role-playing, not rule-playing).

Which leads us to the third objective of The Pentad Cycle: to create a set of amazing fantasy worlds for players to adventure in. Years of research, testing, and game play went into the creation of these worlds. Many cultures, histories, and theories were consulted, along with dozens of books, articles, and many other resources were utilized to create these epic worlds! Ultimately we mixed fact with legend and scientific speculation with fantastical arcane lore, the Pentad Cycle slowly began to take form. The result, we believe, is a set of fantasy worlds that ring with unprecedented original, thought-provoking content that takes your RPG experience from "good" to "effing awesome.", and we think you’ll like it.

HOW TO USE THE PENTAD CYCLE

The Pentad Cycle may be employed as a complete campaign, or as a collection of rule variants which can be used as supplements in the game you already play. Anyway you choose to use this material it will definitely add tons of exciting flavor and depth to anything you do.

In either instance, there should be little difficulty fitting any of the material into your choice of game systems. The Pentad Cycle’s simple mechanics allows for ease of conversion into any system.
